Welcome to the March 2009 edition of the Texas Girls Collaborative Project (TxGCP) eNewsletter. 
 
TxGCP News
The Texas Girls Collaborative Project (TxGCP) is joining forces with the Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) to provide an amazing opportunity to connect with organizations and individuals around the state and across the nation interested in the advancement of girls in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

DragonflyTV Bilingual SciGirls Videos and Activities
With the goal of supporting education programs, Twin Cities Public Television is creating a set of bilingual SciGirls videos and activities, and offering $7,000 to organizations with creative ideas for using these resources to increase Hispanic/Latina girls' engagement in STEM. Any non-profit organization serving youth from Spanish-speaking households is encouraged to apply. SciGirls offers fun science experiences for girls across the country. For more information, contact Margaret Duden.
 
New Great Science for Girls Web Site
Explore the new Great Science for Girls (GSG) Web site, developed by the Educational Equity Center. The Web site is a valuable resource for afterschool program directors, practitioners, parents, intermediaries, and researchers. GSG has assembled a wide range of resources, literature, and research to assist in discussions with funders, community members, and other stakeholders regarding girls and science. Also available on the site is a list of evidence-based curriculum that is successful in stimulating girls' interest in STEM.

Survey for Female High School Students
Veridi an inSight and WGBH Radio are conducting a short online survey to gather girls' feedback about their attitudes toward certain careers. The 500th, 1000th, and 1500th individual to complete the survey will win $50. The survey takes approximately 20 minutes and will be available until March 31, 2009.
 
Calling All SciGirls - New PBS Kids Science Series
Do you know girls or women passionate about science, technology, engineering, or math who would want to be on national television? If so, SciGirls wants to hear from you! A new science TV show for and about tween girls is coming to PBS. SciGirls will spotlight real girls using science to make a difference. Each SciGirls episode will follow a group of girls and their inquiry-based project, highlighting the great things that happen when girls are inspired and empowered by science. SciGirls and the NGCP are partnering to involve girls from NGCP collaborative regions. Suggest girls, mentors, or projects at the SciGirls Blog and you might see your story on TV.

Led by the Women in Engineering Program (WEP) at The University of Texas at Austin along with a dynamic Leadership Team and Champions Board, the TxGCP brings together advocates and leaders from non-profits, K-12 schools, higher education institutions, companies and organizations across the state of Texas.

    Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN) is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the climate for and success of all women in engineering. WEPAN's national conference gathers 200-plus professionals annually to translate the most current research into best practices.  Recurring and emerging issues are addressed by participants representing industry, community college and universities, K-12 and informal education, policy makers and other advocates.  Dedicated to creating changes that enhance the success of women of all races and ethnicities in science, technology, engineering and math.
